About

Stu is a college campus missionary through InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at the University of Northern Iowa.

These are his thoughts about his blog:

I needed an outlet to express and validate my thoughts. I also like to make things. So I made this nifty blog.

I also enjoy indulging in narcissim now and then.

I find myself pretty flaky. I can't guarantee anything deep, meaningful, or insightful will be produced here. Maybe if the mood is right or the Holy Spirit inspires it. Perhaps you all should expect silliness and every once and awhile, some good' old fashioned glory fits.

Oh, and I like Jesus.

Tim Adam Bag Give Away
I receive a lot of questions about bags and backpacks. I usually send people in the direction Tim Adam Bags, and with good reason too. I’ve had my Tim Adam backpack for about two years now, and still use it basically 7 days a week. The roll top design allows for a lot of space, but keeps the bag from looking odd during those times when there’s not much in it. The quality and durability of the materials and construction allow the bag to be enjoyed for years. Each bag is hand made by Tim in Portland.
Tim is relaunching his website on May 1st and to help celebrate we’re teaming up to give away a new backpack. To enter all you have to is reblog this post, likes will not enter you in the drawing. You must also be following Tim Adam and NOVH on tumblr. Once the winner is selected and contacted they will be able to pick out a bag of their choice.
Contest will close Friday May 4th at 11:59 PM. Winner will be selected at random and posted here.

If I had excess money…

If I had excess money that was allotted for me for fun and not practicality and I could do anything I would want with it after giving some to the Lord I would…

Spend it all on seeds! Flower seeds, vegitable seeds, fruit seeds, etc.

I’d buy it all from this place

http://rareseeds.com/

I have this dream of envisioning a house, a place, a garden that just has all these wonderful  growing things in it. Beautiful flowers making everything in this often dreary life glad with color. Flowers that would make our eyes light up with vibrancy. Vegetables and sweet fruits that could sustain hunger.

I really want this, but I am dirt poor and  am always thinking  in practicalities.

Maybe  someday in the future. Jehovah Jireh!

Above is an Orangeglo watermelon I am dying to plant. This may be the only purchase I make form Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. I’ve read it produces well and has almost a tropical flavor. Doesn’t that excite you?! I have no clue why it makes me so excited!

Pet Peeves

-If I have done something a certain way, I want it that way. Don’t change it, lest you stir up my ire.

-Worship leader sermonettes. I came to worship God, not to listen to you tell me what you did yesterday and how you are trying to apply it to the message of the song.

-If I am leading something or explaining something don’t go and tell people to do the opposite or change what I have just said. Again, I want things a certain way.

-Excessively long phone conversations.

-Excessive hisptering. A little bit is fine and goes a long way.

-The ‘I’m too cool for you and what you’re inviting me to’ vibe.

-Introverts who do not talk or ask me questions, thus making me feel like I need to ask an excessive amount of questions to avoid uncomfortable and necessary silence.

-When I am speaking to you, look away from your computer or cell phone and look to my face and address me in sentences that are more than just, “okay.”

-Flakiness

-Tardiness

This list shall be continued.

This is how you make the perfect pannenkoeken. It’s in dutch, but I think you’ll manage.

Pannenkoeken

Most people know by now that I love foods from other countries and will force feed you foreign foods for your own benefit. Strange foods build character and some of you will thank me in the end.

I lived in the Netherlands for 4 months in 2008. The first meal our program directors took us to eat was Pannenkoeken, or Dutch pancakes. They are thin and as big as a huge plate. Not to diminish American pancakes in any way; they are certainly delicious, but dutch pancakes have a glory all their own. The glory of pannenkoeken is that you can put what ever you want on them. Whatever you FREAKIN’ want on them. In America, you are relegated by the cultural pancake mores of using only maple syrup and butter. Occasionally, Karo syrup is allowed. In the Netherlands, they have whole restaurants devoted to pancakes and that offer numerous topping variations. Safer options would be fruit and sugar pancakes, but the risky options would be the vegetables and meat options. You can even get Turkish shawarma meat, yogurt, and pickled onion option.  I remember getting a caprese pannekoeken with tomato, mozzarella, basil, and capers. So eet smakelijk!

A couple of weekends ago I bought a pannenkoeken mix in Pella, IA and had a Pannekoeken party yesterday with some Cedar Falls/Waterloo friends. I think it went over quite well.  A good topping suggestion is apples, Gouda cheese, butter, sugar, and cinnamon.

For you culinary xenophobes out there, pannekoeken is a very safe, and approachable foreign food. Go for it!

This is me in 1991. I have a variation of this same haircut today. I’ve decided I want to become really good at GARDENING. Because it’s the middle of winter and I’m tired of looking at the color white and I don’t own a full spectrum light bulb, I have this itch to grow something. I’ve been looking at seed companies online, I purposely stop in Home and Garden section to look at houseplants, and nearly wet myself when I discovered Walmart has their Burpee seed selection in. (Really? Not really.)
I grew up around vegitable and flower garderns, florists, and truck gardeners. My grandpa used to own an organic truck farm and would sell produce at the farmers markets in Des Moines. Unfortunately he passed away before I could learn anything from him, but it’s in my blood.
I remember that photograph being taken by my dad. I remember having a love affair with Zinnias (I still do; they’re a reliable, drought tolerant cut flower that adds a lot of color in the last hot days of summer.)
Anyhow, I want to be an expert gardener, but I have many obstacles. I am poor, I am not a home or landowner (I’d be ineligable to vote in early US history), I’m uneducated about gardening, I don’t have an attention span, I’m impatient, and frankly-I’m just lazy.
Jesus, you know what I enjoy and desire, be good to me and make a way for me to garden.
Blogosphere- I will keep you posted on how well I do.
